    Career Control

I was wondering if anyone could give any dits, advice, doctrine etc that might help blokes who want to do their own career courses. (Not courses that would keep you in your parent unit like promotion or specialist courses)

For context, I come from a regiment that has an increasingly bad reputation when it comes to facilitating guys wanting to do courses that take them out of the the infantry.
We had an RSM walk up to a Lance Jack and tell him he wasnt going Ranger Regiment, after hearing about this aspiration. He's since signed off.

Another guy had a tight turnaround from a tour before doing STA selection, where the CoC seemed determined not to let him get leave.

Someone else had to use their leave days to get hill training in to go for SF selection.

These are just the stories I know about. But I feel guys need to know how to properly negotiate rank to get courses that won't benefit the regiment. Even if there's some quotes from JSP, AGAI or even the process of putting in a service complaint would be greatly appreciated.

    Re: Career Control

Before pushing a Service Complaint, make sure you've got the full picture - your CoC might have genuine reasons like manning or upcoming ops
If they're truly blocking you, that complaint is the proper route. I've also looked into legal careers to consider when planning a backup path; that site gave me solid salary and role breakdowns when I was weighing options outside the military
Check it if you're thinking long-term.

Keep your course ambitions documented, and ask for written refusals if it comes to that
